A Message from our Supreme Knight:

Dear Brother Knight:

During this challenging time of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, you and I can both be proud of the tremendous work of Knights of Columbus in reaching out in service to Leave No Neighbor Behind. It is in such times of trial when the greatness of our Order shines most brightly, and Father Michael McGivney’s vision is brought to fulfillment.

The Order’s strength, which enables it to respond so well in times of need, is derived from its membership of more than 2 million men, dedicated to the principles of charity, unity and fraternity. And while the coronavirus has presented new challenges to membership recruitment, it has also accelerated and made possible new avenues for men to join our ranks, including the online exemplifications that are hosted by the Supreme Council each week.

I want to personally encourage you to make use of these online exemplifications, which are an important tool to help councils to grow and finish the fraternal year stronger than ever. The Exemplification of Charity, Unity and Fraternity is also a wonderful opportunity for First and Second Degree members to advance to the Third Degree. Detailed procedures and the schedule of upcoming online exemplifications are listed below.

Thank you for your efforts to ensure that our Order continues to grow and thrive. May Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Venerable Servant of God Father Michael McGivney guide our efforts and keep us and our loved ones safe.

Carl A. Anderson
Supreme Knight

To All Council Members:

The Building Corp has been diligently trying to apply for an EIDL loan for small businesses. EIDL is the acronym for the Federal Economic Loan Emergency Advance. This is a loan or grant that is offered to small businesses up to $10,000 for those businesses. This money does NOT need to be paid back! Unfortunately as of today the funding has run out. The Senate is attempting to pass a bill for additional funding up to $33 B. If the funding becomes available, we will then apply again.

Below is from their website:

Small Business AdministrationTranslateSBA
Notice: Lapse in Appropriations
SBA is unable to accept new applications at this time for the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL)-COVID-19 related assistance program (including EIDL Advances) based on available appropriations funding.

Below is what the Building Corp has done thus far:(Notes from our last meeting)

Reviewed options available through Cares Act – Federal funds for small businesses

Decided to apply for the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) – for loss of income

EIDL – forgivable loans up to $10,000

CARE Act loans administered through Small Business Administration – SBA
Although Oxford Bank is an SBA lender, the EIDL application goes direct through SBA

We tried to complete application on SBA web site and had difficulty completing the Owner Agent certification page

Advised by SBA to contact Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for assistance

Initial contact with SBDC advised to apply for SBDC Counselor – submitted request

Also advised by SBDC to contact Oakland County Economic Development & Community Affairs Advantage Oakland – submitted request

Advised by Advantage Oakland on submission of EIDL; Council as owner of business, use best numbers we have based on our regular records,
she also mentioned that Oakland County may have a local program too, our request for counseling was accepted

Meet again and return to application with Council as owner of Carey Building Corp.

Knights of Columbus Webinar
Fraternal Operations During Coronavirus
Training for Online Exemplification
Wed. April, 8, 2020
8:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time

Dear Brother Knight,

During this crisis, many good men are seeking to join the Knights and serve bravely with us in battling the coronavirus. I am excited to announce that we developed a new process that allows them to join while still observing the stay at home orders imposed by state and local governments. We call this our Online Exemplification.

We will host the first online exemplification on Thursday, April 16, at 8 PM EDT. Start lining up candidates now and coordinate the votes of your members to approve these candidates for admission. Next week, grand knights and financial secretaries will receive emails from me that they must forward to approved candidates. These emails will invite the candidates to participate in the online exemplification and they will contain a link to the registration form that every candidate must complete. Once registered, the candidates must log into the exemplification on April 16 and view it to the end. Upon completing the online exemplification, candidates can be processed as third-degree knights in your council. Existing first- and second-degree knights may also register to complete their journey to knighthood in the third degree.

We will offer detailed training on the online exemplification processes in a webinar on Wednesday, April 8 at 8:00 pm EDT. This will not be the exemplification itself. It is a training session for council leaders on how the exemplification will be done and how to manage your candidates. We will leave plenty of time for live questions and answers so that everyone will be comfortable with the plan for the ceremony on April 16.

Our goal is to bring in at least 1,000 new 3rd Degree Knights! I challenge you to make us exceed this goal by a huge margin. You can do it!

Please click below to register for this important training webinar.
Please take our brief survey to help us prepare for the Online Exemplification.

Thank you and God bless you in these difficult times.

Vivat Jesus,

Tom McCaffrey
Vice President
